Many people feel that a winning smile serves them well in social functions. Yet a tooth that has been dulled by stains, chips or old fillings can often leave you wanting to explore your restoration options. Sometimes this can be as simple as having your dentist, Dr. Dean Doles, restore one of more unappealing teeth with a porcelain dental crown.

A dental crown in Allen, Texas, essentially replaces the enamel layer with a porcelain cap that can be shaded to match the surrounding teeth in your smile. Sometimes your dentist will recommend having a dental bleaching treatment administered to whiten all your teeth and then adjust the shade of the crown accordingly. This will improve the appearance of the tooth and cosmetically restore your smile.

The process starts with your dentist using a drill to remove the entire enamel layer of the tooth. This leaves behind a post-like abutment that encases the pulp and root of the tooth.

A detailed impression will be made of the area, which will be sent to our dental lab. This will serve as a guide while the technician custom crafts a porcelain crown to replicate the original tooth. Then, your dentist will secure a hard, plastic, temporary crown over the abutment to protect it.

When your new crown is ready, we will call you back in to have the temporary crown removed and the porcelain crown cemented into place.

If you have an unappealing tooth in your smile, you should call Dean Doles Family Dentistry at 972-727-7269 to have it restored with a custom porcelain crown.
